Tony O'Grady, Ph.D. Bio

For over 20 years, Tony O’Grady has worked in histopathology and molecular pathology in the Department of Pathology at the Royal College of Surgeons in Ireland. In his current role of Chief Medical Scientist, Tony manages a clinical laboratory providing immunohistochemistry and molecular pathology service to over 20 laboratories throughout Ireland. He completed his Ph.D. on the metastatic potential of cutaneous squamous cell carcinoma in renal transplant recipients and is co-author of over 90 papers in peer-reviewed journals. He has extensive experience of molecular pathology testing in solid tumors—in particular, colorectal, lung and melanoma—and has acted as an assessor for the UK National External Quality Assessment Scheme for over 10 years.

Per Hoffmann, Ph.D. Bio

Dr. Per Hoffmann has been involved in the field of genomics since 2005, the time when the first micro-arrays for GWAS became available. Since then, his work has contributed to the identification of new genes and loci in a variety of diseases and traits, among them dyslexia, bipolar disorder, schizophrenia, cleft lip / cleft palate, myeloma and psoriasis. The focus of his current work is the application and adaption of genomic technologies for the investigation of the genetic basis underlying multifactorial diseases and traits. This includes micro-arrays, next- and third-generation sequencing as well as laboratory automation, IT-infrastructure, process management and bioinformatics.

Dr. Hoffmann’s authorship spans over 250 papers in international peer-reviewed journals. He is currently the Technical Head at the Institute of Human Genetics at the University Hospital Bonn and CCO/Co-Founder of LAMPseq Diagnostics GmbH. His postgraduate career has also included head of operation and head of laboratory positions with Life&Brain GmbH and the University of Basel, and guest scientist roles with the Institute of Neuroscience and Medicine and the University of Basel.
